What Is PRP Injection Therapy?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy involves drawing a small amount of your own blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, tiny cells rich in growth factors. These growth factors are then precisely injected into the injured or painful area to stimulate your body’s natural healing response.

Unlike medications or steroids, PRP harnesses your body’s own biology, making it a natural, minimally invasive treatment option for orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions.

Why PRP Injections Are a Leading Choice in Wellington & Palm Beach FL

Evidence-Based Healing for Musculoskeletal Conditions

PRP has been used successfully for:

By delivering a high concentration of growth factors directly to the problem area, PRP supports healing where conventional treatments often fall short.

Non-Surgical & Low-Downtime Approach

PRP injections are performed in-office, typically in under an hour. Because the treatment uses your own blood, allergic reactions are extremely rare and recovery time is minimal compared to surgical procedures.

What to Expect During Your PRP Injection Appointment

1

Consultation & Assessment

Our Wellington hand orthopedic specialists evaluate your medical history, symptoms, and imaging (if needed) to determine if PRP is right for you.

2

Blood Draw & Processing

A small sample of your blood is collected and spun in a sterile centrifuge to isolate the platelet-rich layer.

3

Targeted Injection

Using precise guidance (often ultrasound), the concentrated PRP is injected into the injured or painful area.

4

Recovery & Follow-Up

Most patients experience mild soreness or swelling initially, followed by gradual improvement over weeks to months.

I saw Dr Al-Rashid for a painful hip in 2023. I was at a point where I had to use my hands to “lift” my leg into the car because the pain was too intense to just lift it on its own. He said that I was a candidate for PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections because I still have cartilage. Although they are not (yet) covered by insurance, it was an investment in my comfort that I am very happy with. It has been over a year, I have no pain whatsoever and can carry out my normal routine, and increased my exercise. I highly recommend Dr Al-Rashid and the Atlantis Orthopedic Group in Palm Beach Gardens.

Always outstanding! He did my wife’s hip a little over a year ago and the follow up was great. I need two knee replacements and went to him to look at them. I will start with the first one end of this month. The staff follow through as been excellent. The best news is he does surgery at Palms West Hospital.

I had my right hip replaced by Dr. Rashid and he was excellent. The operation went smoothly. I didn't even feel the prosthetic when I woke up from surgery.

Before all of this he was very careful and helpful, explaining everything in detail from beginning to end, even tried a few treatments before jumping into an operation.

(injections/pills/scans etc)

He explained the pros and con very well. His staff is excellent in the Loxahatchee and Lake Worth office. I'm very happy I found him. My leg feels superior than my normal leg and it's only been three weeks. The incision was tiny, and after seeing him three weeks after the operation (today), the prosthetic is perfectly in place. I barely have any pain other than wound aches from the muscle incision, which of course is healing every single day.

I no longer feel any electrical surges on my leg, spasms, or the leg not waking up when I'm in a sitting position or sleeping. Literally feels perfect. I have nothing negative to say, would definitely recommend him to everybody. I like the fact that he was very detailed with everything from beginning to end.

He takes his job very seriously well being relatable and is not the type of doctor that jumps into an instant operation, unless absolutely needed, which is positive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are PRP injections safe?

Yes. PRP injections are considered very safe because they use your own blood, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or rejection. When performed by experienced orthopedic specialists, complications are rare and typically limited to mild soreness or swelling at the injection site.

How long does a PRP injection take?

A PRP injection appointment usually takes 45–60 minutes. This includes blood collection, processing the platelet-rich plasma, and the guided injection. The procedure is performed in-office at our Wellington orthopedic clinic.

Does a PRP injection hurt?

Most patients experience mild discomfort during the injection and temporary soreness afterward. Any discomfort is usually short-lived and managed with conservative care. Many patients report gradual pain improvement within weeks.

How many PRP injections will I need?

The number of PRP injections depends on your condition, severity, and response to treatment. Many patients benefit from one injection, while others may need a series. Your orthopedic specialist will create a personalized treatment plan.

Is PRP better than steroid injections?

PRP and steroid injections serve different purposes. Steroids may provide short-term inflammation relief, while PRP focuses on long-term healing and tissue regeneration. PRP is often chosen by patients seeking a natural, non-surgical solution without repeated steroid use.
