Regenerative Medicine for Pain in Jupiter, Florida

Chronic joint or spine pain can gradually interfere with everyday activities such as walking along the Jupiter waterfront, playing golf, or simply getting comfortable at night. Many patients I see in Jupiter have already tried medications, physical therapy, or steroid injections without lasting relief. Regenerative medicine for pain focuses on supporting the body’s own healing response using biologic treatments such as Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy, stem cell therapy, and other orthobiologic approaches. In carefully selected patients, these treatments may help reduce pain and improve function without immediately resorting to surgery.

Conditions Often Treated with Regenerative Medicine

In orthopedic practice, regenerative treatments are typically considered for musculoskeletal conditions where tissue damage contributes to persistent pain.

Common examples include:

  • Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder, or ankle

  • Tendinitis involving the rotator cuff, elbow, or Achilles tendon

  • Rotator cuff tear (partial thickness injuries)

  • Meniscus tear in the knee

  • Degenerative disc disease affecting the spine

  • Chronic Ligament injury

In my clinical experience treating patients in Palm Beach County, these conditions often develop gradually due to repetitive stress, age-related tissue changes, or prior injury.

Stem Cell–Based Orthobiologics

Some regenerative programs utilize cell-based therapies derived from bone marrow or adipose tissue, often referred to broadly as stem cell therapy.

These cells may release signaling molecules that influence:

  • Inflammation

  • Tissue repair processes

  • Cellular communication within injured tissue

It is important to note that while promising, stem-cell–based orthopedic therapies remain an evolving field, and results differ among patients.

Situations Where Regenerative Medicine May Not Be Appropriate

Biologic treatments are not suitable for every condition. Patients may not be ideal candidates if they have:

In these cases, conventional orthopedic procedures or joint replacement may provide more reliable results.

Who May Be a Candidate

From a clinical perspective, regenerative medicine tends to be most appropriate for patients who:

Many of my Jupiter patients fall into this category individuals who remain active but want to avoid or delay surgery when possible.

Comparison with Other Pain Treatments

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy remains one of the most important first-line treatments for musculoskeletal pain. Strengthening surrounding muscles often improves joint stability and reduces strain on injured tissues.

Corticosteroid Injections

Corticosteroid injection can reduce inflammation and pain temporarily. However, repeated injections may weaken tissue over time, and relief may be short-lived.

Surgery

For severe structural problems such as advanced Knee osteoarthritis or a full Rotator cuff tear procedures like Total knee replacement or tendon repair may ultimately be necessary.

I saw Dr Al-Rashid for a painful hip in 2023. I was at a point where I had to use my hands to “lift” my leg into the car because the pain was too intense to just lift it on its own. He said that I was a candidate for PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections because I still have cartilage. Although they are not (yet) covered by insurance, it was an investment in my comfort that I am very happy with. It has been over a year, I have no pain whatsoever and can carry out my normal routine, and increased my exercise. I highly recommend Dr Al-Rashid and the Atlantis Orthopedic Group in Palm Beach Gardens.

Always outstanding! He did my wife’s hip a little over a year ago and the follow up was great. I need two knee replacements and went to him to look at them. I will start with the first one end of this month. The staff follow through as been excellent. The best news is he does surgery at Palms West Hospital.

I had my right hip replaced by Dr. Rashid and he was excellent. The operation went smoothly. I didn't even feel the prosthetic when I woke up from surgery.

Before all of this he was very careful and helpful, explaining everything in detail from beginning to end, even tried a few treatments before jumping into an operation.

(injections/pills/scans etc)

He explained the pros and con very well. His staff is excellent in the Loxahatchee and Lake Worth office. I'm very happy I found him. My leg feels superior than my normal leg and it's only been three weeks. The incision was tiny, and after seeing him three weeks after the operation (today), the prosthetic is perfectly in place. I barely have any pain other than wound aches from the muscle incision, which of course is healing every single day.

I no longer feel any electrical surges on my leg, spasms, or the leg not waking up when I'm in a sitting position or sleeping. Literally feels perfect. I have nothing negative to say, would definitely recommend him to everybody. I like the fact that he was very detailed with everything from beginning to end.

He takes his job very seriously well being relatable and is not the type of doctor that jumps into an instant operation, unless absolutely needed, which is positive.

A Physician’s Perspective from Treating Patients in Jupiter

In my orthopedic practice serving Jupiter and surrounding communities in Palm Beach County, regenerative medicine is one tool among many. I evaluate each patient carefully — including medical history, imaging studies, and activity goals — before recommending a biologic treatment.

For some individuals, regenerative medicine helps reduce pain and maintain mobility. For others, physical therapy or surgical care remains the better option. Responsible treatment decisions require individualized assessment rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is regenerative medicine approved by the FDA?

Certain components used in regenerative orthopedics, such as Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy, are commonly performed using a patient’s own blood and fall under specific regulatory guidelines. However, not all stem-cell–based treatments have full FDA approval for every orthopedic condition.

Does regenerative medicine cure arthritis?

These therapies do not cure Osteoarthritis. In some patients they may help reduce symptoms or improve joint function, but results differ and disease progression may continue over time.

How long does relief typically last?

Some patients report improvement for several months to a year or longer, while others notice only modest changes. Response depends on the condition being treated, the severity of tissue damage, and overall health.

Will I still need surgery later?

Possibly. Regenerative treatments may delay surgery for some individuals, but they do not eliminate the need for surgical care in advanced structural conditions.

Is regenerative medicine safe for older adults?

Age alone does not automatically disqualify someone. However, factors such as severe arthritis, certain medications, or chronic illnesses may affect whether treatment is appropriate.
