What is Focal Shockwave Therapy?
Focal Shockwave Therapy in Palm Beach, Florida is a safe, non-invasive, and highly effective treatment that uses targeted acoustic (sound) waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. It is primarily used to treat chronic musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those involving tendons, ligaments, and bones.
Think of it as a “reset button” for stubborn, painful areas. The shockwaves break down scar tissue, stimulate blood flow, and kickstart the repair of damaged tissue.
How Does It Work? The Healing Process
The shockwaves work on a cellular level to promote healing in three key ways:
Revascularization
Stimulates the formation of new blood vessels, increasing blood supply to the injured area, which is crucial for healing.
Stimulation of Healing Factors
Activates the body’s production of substances that reduce inflammation and promote tissue repair.
Breakdown of Scar Tissue
Helps to break down calcified fibroblasts and chronic scar tissue that cause pain and restrict movement.
Pain Reduction
It may overstimulate nerve endings, leading to a short-term reduction in pain transmission (the “Gate Control Theory” of pain).
What Conditions Can It Treat?
Shockwave therapy is most commonly used for:
- Plantar Fasciitis: Heel pain caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia.
- Tennis & Golfer's Elbow (Lateral & Medial Epicondylitis): Pain on the outside or inside of the elbow.
- Achilles Tendinopathy: Pain and stiffness in the Achilles tendon.
- Patellar Tendinopathy (Jumper's Knee): Pain in the tendon below the kneecap.
- Shoulder Calcific Tendinitis: Pain caused by calcium deposits in the rotator cuff.
- Hamstring Tendinopathies
- Trigger Points & Myofascial Pain Syndrome

Before all of this he was very careful and helpful, explaining everything in detail from beginning to end, even tried a few treatments before jumping into an operation.
(injections/pills/scans etc)
He explained the pros and con very well. His staff is excellent in the Loxahatchee and Lake Worth office. I'm very happy I found him. My leg feels superior than my normal leg and it's only been three weeks. The incision was tiny, and after seeing him three weeks after the operation (today), the prosthetic is perfectly in place. I barely have any pain other than wound aches from the muscle incision, which of course is healing every single day.
I no longer feel any electrical surges on my leg, spasms, or the leg not waking up when I'm in a sitting position or sleeping. Literally feels perfect. I have nothing negative to say, would definitely recommend him to everybody. I like the fact that he was very detailed with everything from beginning to end.
He takes his job very seriously well being relatable and is not the type of doctor that jumps into an instant operation, unless absolutely needed, which is positive.
Aftercare and Recovery
It’s normal to feel some soreness in the treated area for 24-48 hours after the session. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise that directly stresses the treated area for 1-2 days after each session. Your clinician will provide you with specific aftercare instructions.
