Stem Cell Therapy for Joints in Sebring, Florida

Joint pain can gradually take away your ability to stay active whether it’s knee stiffness during a walk around Highlands Hammock State Park or shoulder pain that limits daily tasks at home. In my clinical practice, many patients in Sebring come to me hoping to avoid or delay surgery. Stem cell therapy for joints is one of the regenerative options we offer, designed to support the body’s natural repair processes and potentially reduce pain while improving function.

My Clinical Perspective as an Orthopedic Physician

In treating joint conditions over the years, I’ve seen how degenerative changes especially those related to Osteoarthritis can affect quality of life. Traditional approaches such as medications or injections may provide temporary relief but often do not address underlying tissue damage.

Stem cell therapy is not a replacement for every treatment, but in carefully selected patients, it may help reduce inflammation and support tissue healing. My approach is always guided by imaging, physical examination, and a clear understanding of each patient’s goals and limitations.

What Stem Cell Therapy Involves

Stem cell therapy typically uses cells derived from your own body—commonly bone marrow or adipose (fat) tissue. These cells are processed and then injected into the affected joint under image guidance.

The goal is to:

  • Support repair of cartilage and soft tissues
  • Reduce inflammation within the joint
  • Improve mobility and function over time

It is important to understand that this therapy does not “regrow” a completely new joint, and results vary from person to person.

Patient Centered Care You Can Trust

Conditions Commonly Treated

In my Sebring clinic, stem cell therapy is most often considered for:

Candidate Selection in Clinical Practice

Who May Be a Candidate

Based on my experience, appropriate candidates often include:

  • Individuals with mild to moderate joint degeneration
  • Patients who have not responded adequately to physical therapy or medications
  • Those seeking to delay or avoid joint replacement surgery
  • Patients in generally good health with realistic expectations

Who May Not Be a Candidate

Stem cell therapy may not be suitable if you have:

  • Advanced, bone-on-bone arthritis
  • Severe joint deformity
  • Active infection or systemic illness
  • Certain blood disorders or cancers
  • Unrealistic expectations about outcomes

In these cases, surgical options or other treatments may be more appropriate.

I saw Dr Al-Rashid for a painful hip in 2023. I was at a point where I had to use my hands to “lift” my leg into the car because the pain was too intense to just lift it on its own. He said that I was a candidate for PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections because I still have cartilage. Although they are not (yet) covered by insurance, it was an investment in my comfort that I am very happy with. It has been over a year, I have no pain whatsoever and can carry out my normal routine, and increased my exercise. I highly recommend Dr Al-Rashid and the Atlantis Orthopedic Group in Palm Beach Gardens.

Always outstanding! He did my wife’s hip a little over a year ago and the follow up was great. I need two knee replacements and went to him to look at them. I will start with the first one end of this month. The staff follow through as been excellent. The best news is he does surgery at Palms West Hospital.

I had my right hip replaced by Dr. Rashid and he was excellent. The operation went smoothly. I didn't even feel the prosthetic when I woke up from surgery.

Before all of this he was very careful and helpful, explaining everything in detail from beginning to end, even tried a few treatments before jumping into an operation.

(injections/pills/scans etc)

He explained the pros and con very well. His staff is excellent in the Loxahatchee and Lake Worth office. I'm very happy I found him. My leg feels superior than my normal leg and it's only been three weeks. The incision was tiny, and after seeing him three weeks after the operation (today), the prosthetic is perfectly in place. I barely have any pain other than wound aches from the muscle incision, which of course is healing every single day.

I no longer feel any electrical surges on my leg, spasms, or the leg not waking up when I'm in a sitting position or sleeping. Literally feels perfect. I have nothing negative to say, would definitely recommend him to everybody. I like the fact that he was very detailed with everything from beginning to end.

He takes his job very seriously well being relatable and is not the type of doctor that jumps into an instant operation, unless absolutely needed, which is positive.

Comparison With Other Treatment Options

Conservative Care

  • Physical therapy and exercise remain foundational
  • Anti-inflammatory medications may help manage symptoms
  • Corticosteroid injections can provide short-term relief but do not promote tissue repair

Surgical Options

Procedures such as Total knee replacement or hip replacement are highly effective for advanced arthritis. However, they involve:

  • Hospitalization
  • Recovery time
  • Surgical risks

Stem cell therapy may be considered earlier in the treatment pathway, particularly for patients not yet ready for surgery.

What Patients in Sebring Should Consider

Living in Sebring often means staying active whether golfing, gardening, or enjoying outdoor activities year-round. Joint pain can interfere with these routines. My role is to help you weigh all available options carefully, considering your lifestyle, imaging findings, and long-term goals.

Stem cell therapy may be part of that plan, but it is rarely the only solution. A comprehensive approach often includes rehabilitation, activity modification, and ongoing monitoring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is stem cell therapy approved for joint conditions?

Some uses fall under regulatory guidelines, but many orthopedic applications are still being studied. It is important to receive treatment from a qualified physician who follows current standards.

How long does it take to notice improvement?

Some patients report changes within weeks, while others may take several months. Improvement is not guaranteed.

Does the procedure hurt?

Most patients tolerate it well. Local anesthesia is typically used to minimize discomfort.

Can this replace joint replacement surgery?

In early or moderate cases, it may help delay surgery. In advanced arthritis, surgery is often the more predictable option.

Is physical therapy still needed?

Yes. Rehabilitation is often an essential part of improving joint function and maintaining results.
